Ron Harpelle teaches Latin American and Caribbean history at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario where he specializes in the history of international development. He is also a documentarian who makes films that focus on history, immigration, development issues and human rights, including Under the Red Star, a feature-length docu-drama examining Finnish radicalism in Canada before World War II. He incorporates a variety of new media into his teaching to link his academic research and his film interests. That includes A Question of Development, a Vimeo channel he created to use in conjunction with his course on the history of international relations.
